Don't you love it when a plan comes together? I sure do. A few Sunday's ago, one of my roommates, "Paddington", was perched on my bed talking to me as I attempted to organize my room. We started talking about the weather and celebrating the fact that the next weekend (stake conference weekend) we wouldn't be subjected to Soon, another roommate, "La Santa", had perched herself on a piece of empty floor space and the three of us drafted an evite. Paddington pulled out her laptop and found an invitation that made her quite giddy (I think it was a combination of having recently watched Beauty and the Beast and upcoming spring), so we began to plan around the bee decor (as illustrated above). Our combined forces came up with the following:
Please accept an invitation to Mt. Ida for a post-Stake Conference tea party with our very own variation of the beatitudes:
1. Bee hungry
2. Bee friendly
3. Bee on your best bee-havior
4. Bee anxiously engaged in a good cause
5. Bee prepared (aka don't bee a mooch)
6. In other words... bee our guest!
We wanted to take advantage of the one Sunday that all our friends have the same church time to invite you all over for a light afternoon tea (sans tea, of course).
Please bring some fancy finger food or fancy drinks to share (think: strawberries, cupcakes, tea sandwiches, veggies & dip, mini quiches, cheese squares, etc.) and pray for good weather so we can mingle in the garden all afternoon! There may or may not be croquet to play...
We hope you can make it, but if not, don't worry... bee happy :)
With completed copy, we realized we needed an equally amazing title for our witty invitation. We brainstormed ideas: something to do with the day?... the season?... the food?... the house?... the fact that it was after church? Suddenly, inspiration hit. We had written a version of the beatitudes, which originally come from the Sermon on the Mount--that's churchy. And, well, we live on a Mount of sorts (the name of our street is Mount Ida). So, I said, "How about Sermon on Mount Ida!" We laughed, and called it good.
At first, we forgot to say who the evite was from, but people told us they still accepted because it made them laugh so much. The day arrived and the weather was perfect. Yeah, they did hunger and thirst...for the amazing food everyone brought. Verily, ward boundaries were crossed, lively discussions ensued, friendships rekindled and new ones made... Indeed, I call it an overall success.
