Forrest Gump got it all wrong. I've decided life is not like a box of chocolates, it's more like a box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavored beans.
With chocolates, at least there is a somewhat comprehensible chart of flavors from which you can choose. Not to mention a skill I've developed of cracking the bottom slightly just to see what's on the inside. You like it, eat it. You don't, put it back no harm done. Sometimes you get stuff you don't like but you swallow it. And come on, it's chocolate so when all is said and done, it's not that bad.
Bertie Botts on the other hand have no manual and no tricky way to figure out whether you really want to invest in a particular bean. You think you're getting one thing and more often than not it turns out to be something completely different... sometimes surprisingly better, sometimes horrifically worse. For example, you choose a light green unassuming bean thinking it's pear. It could end up being pear or even a melon (yum) or.. it could be mucous (revolting x10.) Ah life, full of surprises! Some that leave a pleasant taste in your mouth, others quite a bitter one.
