This quote makes me smile, a lot. I walk around Georgetown and nearly gag at the site of all the east coast, old money swagger on the seemingly prepubescent undergrads. Each is sporting some sort of boating shoe, wearing either long or short khakis and talking about their summer in the Hamptons. Is there anything wrong with this style? Not necessarily, it can look quite nice. I've been known to rock a sort of jacket look, but when the above personality goes with it and it's found en mass... yes, yes there is. And yes, I revolt against it; my east coast is the opposite of this. It's diverse, it wears small amounts of make-up (compared to our western friends), it likes books, it likes art, it's into graphic design/film/photograph or has a dozen friends who are, and loves a good meal and lively discussion with friends/family. Thus, I think it's awesome that this quote comes from a president of a school where, by and large (there's a nautical term to go with those boating shoes) the student body is stereotyped for having its fair share of tie and jacket-sporting a**holes.
